Everyone’s favourite Star Trek character, the stoic and logical Mr Spock, would probably have a lot to say about the goings on of the modern world, particularly when it comes to industrial automation and system integration. We want to explore what Spock would say about industrial automation, and how it might affect the way you think about our services at NJCSI…
This quote from Season1, Episode 22 ‘Space Speed’ is a great one. Spock has identified that without complete information, or without being certain of total accuracy, an industrial plant can expect dangerous consequences to profit and even safety. With industrial automation, risk is greatly reduced and accuracy is increased dramatically.
Spock seems to have made a point here, especially with all the talk about ‘the Singularity’ recently. Computers and industrial automation software are excellent at yielding consistent results over long periods of time, without mistakes and oversights. However, Spock seems to have foreshadowed a modern feel of Computer Overlords, stating that he would not enjoy to serve them in a reversed society.
This quote is from Season 2, Episode 2, ‘The Ultimate Computer’.
This quote from Star Trek VI shows a great deal of insight on Spock’s part, as per usual. With regard to your business, once you have analysed your systems thoroughly, found no real solutions, and still have issues at hand, it is only logical to conclude that your systems are the problem. Consider integrating your systems or fully automating your industrial plant to reduce risk and increase your productivity.
It is important to remember this quote from Season 3, Episode 9, ‘The Tholian Web’, as it provides insight on human nature, as well as how we can improve our systems and industries. Seeing what we want to see is a common issue amongst business owners who fail to recognise that their business requires serious reform. When it comes to industrial automation, do not drag your heels for so long that your business goes under.
